About Us

The NATIONAL CONSORTIUM FOR SMALL SCALE FISHERIES RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OR TOO-BIG- TO-IGNORE (TBTI) PHILIPPINES is a research network and knowledge mobilization partnership that focuses on addressing issues and concerns affecting the viability and sustainability of small-scale fisheries (SSF) in the Philippines. TBTI Philippines envisions being the lead organization for policy inputs and advice on SSF matters in the country. Its mission is to promote the conduct of transdisciplinary SSF research and governance to promote the welfare of small-scale fishers. The goals are to: 1.) conduct transdisciplinary research on SSF in the country; 2.) promote transdisciplinary SSF research and governance in the country; 3.) conduct training and other capability-building activities in line with the promotion of SSF transdisciplinary research; 4.) create a repository of SSF data, research, and other information in the country; 5.) provide inputs to policies affecting SSF in the country; and 6.) promote the full implementation of Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF Guidelines) in the country.

The UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES VISAYAS (UPV) is a constituent unit of the University of the Philippines, the national university of the Philippines, established and existing by virtue of Executive Order No. 628 s. 1980 and Republic Act. No. 9500, with principal office at Miagao, Iloilo. UPV has the national mandate as the center of fisheries and aquatic sciences education in the country and is guided by the following goals to achieve: 1) To provide quality education to its students; 2) To advance knowledge through research; and 3) To provide opportunities for its faculty and staff to work for the improvement of the larger community.

The CARLOS HILADO MEMORIAL STATE UNIVERSITY (CHMSU) is a state university located in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. Established in 1954, CHMSU’s mission is to empower learners through academic excellence, relevant research, active community engagement, and good governance in order to build a sustainable world. It also promotes and undertake research, extension services and provide progressive leadership in its areas of specialization. The NORTHERN ILOILO STATE UNIVERSITY (NISU) was first known as the Western Visayas branch of the Philippine Institute of Fisheries Technology through Republic Act on May 2, 1952. It was later converted into Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College on June 10, 1983 by virtue of Batas Pambansa Bilang 500. Though Republic Act 10597 and upon compliance with the requirements of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) the Commission En Banc issued Resolution No. 22-2022 granting and approving NIPSC to be converted into Northern Iloilo State University April 26, 2022. NISU, as she strongly stands against time, will continue to be the catalyst of change and development in Northern Iloilo and its neighboring areas to provide quality education to its clientele and to be one of the globally acknowledged universities in the field of research, extension and production.

The STATE UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN NEGROS (SUNN) , once Old Sagay Barangay High School, became a state college in Northern Negros via Republic Act 8448. Then, on June 18, 2022, Republic Act 11859 converted it to the State University of Northern Negros.

The university is mandated to offer short-term technical-vocational, undergraduate, and graduate programs within its areas of competency and specialization in the fields of agriculture, arts, biology, [national] natural science, business and management, criminology, education, engineering, fisheries, food technology, healthcare, industrial technology, information and communications technology, management, and marine sciences, and other relevant fields of study.

SUNN has 4 campuses: Sagay Campus (Main Campus), Old Sagay Campus, Escalante Campus, and Laga-an Campus.

As the only state university in the province of Antique, UNIVERSITY OF ANTIQUE (UA) contextualized its presence in 2009 by virtue of Republic Act 9746 with fueled mission to uplift the lives of Antiqueños and Filipinos through quality instruction, innovative research and development program, sustainable resource generation, and relevant extension services. Promoting the institutional thrusts embodied by the kasUbay Fusion, which includes the niches on Kawayan, Koron, kag Karan-un, each programs that model how University of Antique responds to changes and development in the province of Antique. The main campus strives for excellence in education, management, engineering, and technology; Tario-Lim Memorial Campus takes the lead in fishery education; and Hamtic Campus works towards strengthening the agriculture industry
