FISHING FOR SOLUTION COMPETITION
Eligibility
The competition is open for graduate and undergraduate students (3 to 5 members, aged 18 years old and above, and a faculty mentor).
Abstract submission
Submit an abstract of your idea/solution addressing any gaps/problems related to the theme of the symposium on or before 15 August 2024 (closes at 23:59, The Philippines time, GMT+8). Use the abstract submission portal on the website.
The abstract should contain the following information:
- Title (maximum 25 words, Bold Capital Letters, 14-point Arial, with scientific names italicized)
- A list of co-authors (12-point Arial font) and affiliation (10-point Arial font)
- Name of presenting author should be in bold letters
- Email address of corresponding/presenting author
- An abstract of 300 words or fewer, formatted using a sample template (see next page)
- 12-point Arial, 1.15 spacing
- Paragraphs should be separated by a blank line and should not be indented.
- 3-5 keywords

Abstracts must be in English — the official language of the symposium. Use only one-page, Standard A4 paper (portrait). The margin should be set at 1 inch throughout (Top/bottom/left/right).
The abstract should be saved and submitted in MS Word format. The filename should be in this format: Fishing for Solution_surname of corresponding author_first three words of abstract title
The Competition Committee will assess abstracts based on technical merit and relevance to the theme. The decision of the Competition Committee is final and non-negotiable.
Those who have submitted abstracts for the Fishing for Solution Competition will be notified as to whether their abstract has been accepted or not on or before 31 August 2024.
Video and Script Submission
Authors of accepted abstracts for the Fishing for Solution Competition agree to submit to the symposium organizer a 15-min pre-recorded video and script of their presentation by 04 October 2024. Guidelines on video and script submission will be sent to the authors of accepted abstracts.
Informed Consent
Authors of accepted abstracts for the Fishing for Solution Competition agree to submit to the symposium organizer a 15-min pre-recorded video and script of their presentation by 04 October 2024. Guidelines on video and script submission will be sent to the authors of accepted abstracts.
Registration
Consent from all collaborators is necessary prior to submission of entries for the competition.
Submission of entries for the fishing for solution competition grants permission to the organizers of the First Philippines Small-Scale Fisheries National Symposium (PSSFNS 1) to use the abstract, video and images generated in the symposium and other related websites, social and mainstream media, symposium e-publication and printed materials, and other venues deemed necessary by the organizer.
Judging Criteria
The judging criteria are as follows:
Clarity of the problem presented 25%
Clear process of the solution 25%
Work-ability of the solutions presented 25%
Potential impact of the proposed solution when implemented 25%
Announcement of Winners
Winners will be announced during the Closing Ceremony on 18 October 2024.
Prizes
Three entries will be declared as winners:
1st place – Php 10,000
2nd place – Php 8,000
3rd Place – Php 5,000
Certificate of Recognition will be given to the three major winners and their faculty advisers.
Certificate of Participation will be given to all competing entries.
*Note
For a competition to proceed, a minimum of 6 submissions must be received.
