STUDENT ORAL SPEED PRESENTATION COMPETITION
Abstract submission and eligibility
The competition is open to graduate and undergraduate students. Interested students who want to join the competition should submit an abstract. Please refer to Abstract Submission Guidelines for details and eligibility.
The submitted abstracts will be evaluated by the Program Committee. The corresponding/presenting authors will be notified on 15 August 2024 if their entries are qualified or not.
Registration
Accepted entries for the competition should register in the symposium (see Registration) not later than 15 September 2024.
Submission of Prerecorded Video and Script
Accepted entries for the competition will be required to submit a five-minute pre-recorded video and the script of the presentation on or before 04 October 2024.
Mechanics
- The prerecorded video must show the presenter and the presentation slide (you may use one static slide or a maximum of five slides).
- Slide numbers should be reflected on the lower right corner of each slide following the specified format (Page x of y).
- Each presentation should run for a maximum of 5 min. A point deduction will be imposed for every 5 seconds excess time.
- Scientific presentations are to be spoken in English. Presentations in the form of songs, poems, and other creative means are not allowed.
- Fancy slide transitions, and animations or gifs of any form are not allowed. Slide number 1 should contain the title of the topic and is to be shown at the beginning of the presentation.
- Background music, sound effects, video clips are not permitted.
More instruction will be provided to authors of the accepted abstract.
Informed Consent
Consent from all collaborators is necessary prior to submission of entries for the competition.
Submission of entries for the student oral speed presentation competition grants permission to the organizers of the First Philippines Small-Scale Fisheries National Symposium (PSSFNS 1) to use the abstract, video and images generated in the symposium and other related websites, social and mainstream media, symposium e-publication and printed materials, and other venues deemed necessary by the organizer.
Judging Criteria
The judging criteria are as follows:
Originality and creativity 25%
Organization (logical presentation of ideas) 25%
Oral presentation and delivery 25%
Neatness of the presentation slides 10%
Q&A Session (Ability to answer questions) 15%
Announcement of Winners
Winners will be announced during the Closing Ceremony on 18 October 2024.
Prizes
Three Winners for each category:

- Best Student Oral Presenter (Undergraduate Category): Php 7,000 each
- Best Student Oral Presenter (Graduate Category): Php 7,000 each
Certificate of Recognition for all major winners and their advisers.
Certificate of Participation to the competition for all participating entries.
*Note
For a competition to proceed, a minimum of 6 submissions must be received.
