Theme of the Competition

Small-Scale Fisheries in the Everyday Life

Sub-Theme:

“Bright Spots” – The importance of SSF
“Hope Spots” – The challenges of SSF

Eligibility

The competition is open for graduate and undergraduate students (maximum of 3 members, aged 18 years old and above).

Abstract Submission

Submit an abstract of your Vlog idea related to the theme of the competition on or before 15 August 2024 (closes at 23:59, The Philippines time, GMT+8). Use the abstract portal on the website. Identify the sub-theme (bright spot or hope spot) of your choice.

The abstract should contain the following information:

  1. The Title of the Vlog 
  2. The Genre of the Vlog (Personal documentary, Challenge or Contest, Profile or Feature, Travel, Technology, Cooking, Do-It-Yourself (DIY), and Lifestyle) 
  3. Estimated Running Time (minimum of 8 minutes and maximum of 12 minutes)
  4. A list of Co-Authors and affiliation.
  5. Name of presenting author. 
  6. Email address of corresponding/presenting author
  7. An abstract of 300 words or fewer, formatted using a sample template (see next page)
    • 12-point Arial, 1.15 spacing
    • Paragraphs should be separated by a blank line and should not be indented.
  8. 3-5 keywords
  9. The symposium sub-theme (bright spot or hope spot)

The abstract must be in English or Filipino. Use only one page, A4 paper (portrait). Margin should be set at 1 inch throughout the page. Use Arial (12) typeface, 1.5 spacing. 

The abstract should be saved and submitted in MS Word format. The filename should be in this format: SSF Student Vlog_surname of corresponding author_first three words of the Vlog Title

The competition Committee will assess abstracts based on creativity and relevance of content to the competition theme and sub-theme. The decision of the Competition Committee is final and non-negotiable. 

Those who have submitted their abstracts will be notified when their abstract have been accepted or not on or before 31 August 2024

Submission of Vlogs

Authors of accepted abstracts agree to submit to the symposium organizer their Vlog entries by 04 October 2024. Guidelines of submission will be sent to the authors of accepted abstract.

Registration

Authors and team members of accepted Vlog entries for the competition should register in the symposium not later than 15 September 2024. This is needed for the inclusion of the vlog abstract in the Symposium Program.

Informed Consent

Consent from all collaborators is necessary prior to submission of entries for the competition.

Submission of entries for the SSF Student Vlog competition grants permission to the organizers of the First Philippines Small-Scale Fisheries National Symposium (PSSFNS 1) to use the abstract, video and images generated in the symposium and other related websites, social and mainstream media, symposium e-publication and printed materials, and other venues deemed necessary by the organizer.

Viewing of the Entries

All vlogs will be made available for viewing during the symposium. They will be looped on a screen in the symposium venue.

Judging Criteria

  • Abstract                                                                30%

The Judging Criteria for the Abstract are as follows:

  • Thematic Clarity                                                    40%
    Creativity                                                                40%
    Feasibility                                                               20%

The Judging Criteria for the Vlog Entry are as follows:

  • Cinematic and Visual Quality                             30%
    Audio and Sound Quality                                    30%
    Storytelling and Content                                     40% 

Announcement of Winners

Winners will be announced during the Closing Ceremony on 18 October 2024.

Prizes

Three entries will be declared as winners for the Hope Spot: 

1st Place – Php 10,000

2nd Place – Php 8,000

3rd Place – Php 5,000

Three entries will be declared as winners for the Bright Spot: 

1st Place – Php 10,000

2nd Place – Php 8,000

3rd Place – Php 5,000

Certificate of Recognition will be given to the three major winners and their advisers. 

Certificate of Participation will be given to all registered competing entries.

For a competition to proceed, a minimum of 6 submissions must be received.
